Project X is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering sex workers of all sexual orientation and gender identity. Founded in 2008, they mostly reach out to Singaporeans and Malaysians, but they also work with sex workers from the Philippines, Indonesia, China and Thailand. Besides distributing safer sex resources (lube and condoms) and conducting outreach online and offline, they provide alerts about abusive clients and police officers, and organize casual meetups every Wednesday at their center. Action for AIDS (AFA) was formed in 1988 and has since become Singapore’s leading independent organization of HIV experts, dedicated to fighting AIDS/HIV infection in Singapore. They focus on promoting education about prevention and providing care to people living with HIV/AIDS. Anyonymous and mobile testing services for HIV and syphillis are also available, costing SGD 30-40. But if you call or email them to make an appointment in advance, they can give you a FREE HIV test at their center.

Oogachaga started as a local support group for gay men in 1999. Over the years, it has expanded into a community-based organization providing counseling services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals and families. They are also very friendly towards sex workers and have given out safe sex resources in the past.

The Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) is the longest-established community-based organisation focused on HIV, STI and Hepatitis C prevention, education and health promotion for sex workers in the state of New South Wales, Australia (where Sydney is located). Just a few minutes walk from Sydney’s Central Station, the SWOP office hosts counselling sessions and a variety of workshops. They also have an online legal kit you may find helpful. A number of online resources are available in Thai ไทย, Korean 한국어 and Chinese 中文 as well.

Service Workers in Group Foundation (SWING) was formed in 2004 and works with sex workers of all genders, cultures and nationalities. Former/current sex workers make up over 80% of its staff, who reaches out to highly marginalized members of the community, including HIV+ sex workers, migrant sex workers, those who lack access to stable accommodation, and those who use currently illicit drugs. SWING now operates four drop-in centres across three regions in Thailand: one in Koh Samui and one in Pattaya, as well as two in Bangkok, where sex workers can stop by for conversation, to eat, use the Internet, prepare for work, and take part in HIV-related awareness games, group activities, as well as sessions on understanding human rights. Staff would provide condoms and lubricant to anyone who visits the center. Voluntary and confidential counselling and testing services for HIV (VCT) are also available at the Pattaya center.

The Empower Foundation has been active since the onset of the AIDS epidemic in Thailand in 1984. Committed to supporting and empowering sex workers, this non-governmental organization offers free language classes, individual counseling, arts workshops, as well as access to condoms and lubricant. It has centers in Patpong (Bangkok), Chiang Mai, Mae Sai and Phuket.
