Safe Sex Practices

Points to note when wearing a condom:

  1. Check the expiry date. Expired condoms have a greater risk of being torn!

  2. Check if the packing has been damaged. If there is any hole or opening in the packing, do not use the condom.

  3. Find a condom size that fits. You don’t want it to break or to be too loose – both would make sex unsafe!

  4. Using more than one condom at once does NOT make sex safer. In fact, it makes them easier to break!

  5. Wear a condom only when the penis is fully erected. When you put it on a semi-erected penis, the condom might become loose during sex.

  6. After ejaculation, tie a knot on the condom to prevent leakage. Dump it into the rubbish bin.

  7. Each condom should only be used once!

There are three kinds of lubricant, water-based, oil-based or silicone-based:

  1. Water-based lubricants work well with most condoms and effectively reduce the risk of condom breakdage.

  2. Oil-based lubricants weaken and break down latex condoms. They should not be used together.

  3. Silicone-based lubricants provide better lubicration than water-based ones, BUT they should never be used with silicone condoms, silicone dildos and other silicone sex toys.

Rimming

Use plastic wrap when rimming. It serves as an effective barrier for doing a nice, pleasurable, and safe rim job. Without it, there is an increase risk of getting infected by E. Coli and STDs, such as gonorrhea and candidiasis.

Oral sex

  1. Remember to use a condom when you give/receive a blowjob. HIV and other STDs can be transmitted through oral sex – if you have open sores inside your mouth or bleeding gums, there is an increased risk of transmitting infections.

  2. Do not brush your teeth, floss or use mouthwash, eat food such as toast, crisps just before or just after having oral sex. You may get small, unnoticeable cuts in your mouth, making it easier for infection to pass from one person to another.

  3. There are condoms specificaly designed for oral sex, and they come with different flavors. Why not give them a try? However, there is usually no lube on them, so never use them for anal / vaginal sex!
